Position Summary
Southern Utah University seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Nursing. This is a full-time non-tenure track position. The faculty member will teach in the SUU Department of Nursing (DON) in areas of expertise (mainly face-to-face courses with possibility of teaching some online courses), provide service to the DON, College of Health Science (COHS), University, community, and profession and contribute to the mission and strategic priorities of the DON. This is a full-time, 9-month position to commence in August 2026 on first day of faculty contract.
Clinical days will be scheduled in Cedar City and St. George on various days of the week.
Essential Functions
- Participating in the ongoing development, implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of nursing academic programs:
- Participating in program and course revisions.
- Revising assigned courses to reflect program outcomes, AACN essentials, and other professional standards, state board of nursing minimum standards, current evidence and best practice.
- Collaborating with clinical coordinators, program directors, and the DON Chair and program leads to identify the types of clinical experiences and sites needed for optimal clinical education of students.
- Teaching face-to-face and online nursing courses as assigned, as well as undergraduate face-to-face clinical nursing courses.
- Supervising nursing students as assigned.
- Collaborating with clinical agencies in arranging student clinical experiences (e.g. orientation to objectives of clinical
experience, course syllabus, clinical schedule, et al) as appropriate. - Participating in the development of academic policies affecting the admission, progression, graduation and dismissal of students.
- Participating in the evaluation and ongoing enhancement of the curricula.
- Applying evidence from best education practices to curriculum development and to teaching.
- Serve the Department of Nursing, College of Health Sciences, University, community, and profession:
- Participating in Department of Nursing team meetings, standing committees, task force and other meetings.
- Participating in College of Health Sciences, University, and ad hoc committees.
- Participating in community and professional activities as appropriate.
- Participating in scholarly projects as appropriate.
- Contributing to the mission and strategic priorities of the DON, COHS, and Southern Utah University.
- Collaborating effectively with other faculty and staff members both within the DON and throughout the University and community to develop inter-professional academic, clinical, and research opportunities.
- Engagement in clinical scholarship or research and leadership/service.
Education & Experience
Minimum qualifications:
- A masters degree in nursing is required.
- Current nursing licensure in the state of Utah.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Official transcripts by August contract date if hired.
Preferred qualifications:
- At least 2 years clinical experience preferred.
- Previous college-level teaching preferred.
