Job Summary
The
Campus Safety Officer is an unarmed, non-sworn position within the Columbus State University Police Department. This position is responsible
for providing security support to the residence halls. This position will be responsible for patrolling the designated residence hall, lobby
area, hallways, exterior entrances/exits, and other areas within or immediately around the residence hall. This position will also be
responsible for monitoring access in the assigned residence hall by checking student identification, declining access when appropriate, and
registration of guests during the assigned work hours. Other duties or responsibilities may be include as deemed necessary by a supervisor.
The Campus Safety Officer will be courteous and professional while performing their duties. The Campus Safety Officer will be required to
adhere to strict policies and procedures as outlined in the Columbus State University Police Department Manual. The Campus Safety Officer,
as a representative of the Columbus State University Police Department, will be required to maintain a high standard of conduct both on and
off duty as well as safeguard law enforcement sensitive information.
The Campus Safety Officer will be courteous and professional
while performing their duties. The Campus Safety Officer will be required to adhere to strict policies and procedures as outlined in the
Columbus State University Police Department Manual. The Campus Safety Officer, as a representative of the Columbus State University Police
Department, will be required to maintain a high standard of conduct both on and off duty as well as safeguard law enforcement sensitive
information.
Workdays are primarily defined as Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Work Hours are defined as 9 pm to 3
am.
What is a Campus Security Authority (CSA)?
The law defines a CSA as: An official of an institution who has
significant responsibility for student and campus activities, including, but not limited to, student housing, student discipline, and campus
judicial proceedings.
Responsibilities
- Greet visitors and residents entering the residence hall.
- Walking
residence hall and parking area to ensure CSU’s rules and regulations are upheld. - Verify that students entering the building are
residents. - Alert University Police of criminal activity.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or
Georgia State accredited GED certificate required, associate’s degree or higher preferred. - Valid driver’s license
required. - No felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 20/20 or 20/20 corrected.

Conditions of Employment

required based upon specific position duties:
- A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase
Card usage; - Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.
- Motor vehicle reports are required
for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A
successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
