Job Summary
The Division of Public Safety at CU Boulder encourages applications for a
Residential Services Officer (RSO)! The RSO Unit provides residential safety patrols to detect and enforce policy violations and support
emergency and non-emergency needs within housing units in the CU Boulder campus community. This position maintains a visible presence
through active patrols and serves as a liaison with CU Residence Life year-round. The RSO acts as a point of contact for Hall Directors,
Night Staff, and Resident Advisors, ensuring safety and operational coordination. Daily communication with Residence Life staff and Division
of Public Safety (DPS) staff is essential to maintain a safe environment during routine and emergency situations.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Patrol and Detection of
Violations
- Conduct active foot patrols throughout residential facilities, including stairwells and hallways, for 8-10 hours per
shift. - Patrol exterior grounds via foot, bicycle, or vehicle in all weather conditions.
- Detect and investigate potential
policy violations; take appropriate action to maintain safety and notify authorities. - Respond to emergency and non-emergency
situations in the housing units, ensuring personal and community safety. - Communicate and document all interactions accurately using
reporting systems. - Identify hazards and threats quickly and implement appropriate solutions.
- Maintain proficiency in
emergency response protocols.
Report Writing and Documentation
- Prepare detailed, accurate reports of incidents using DPS
systems. - Ensure reports meet professional standards.
Training and Auxiliary Projects
- Complete ongoing training to
maintain readiness for patrol, special events, and emergencies. - Stay current on public safety practices.
- Maintain
trainings/proficiency in First Responder, CPR/First Aid, AED, Incident Command Systems, and other safety skills. - Participate in
special projects supporting departmental and community needs.
Other Duties as Assigned

The starting salary range for this position is $53,000 – $58,000 annually.

What We Require
- Two years of experience
in a related occupational field or equivalent education. - Valid Colorado Driver’s License in good standing.
What
You Will Need
- Maintain a strong, visible presence in CU residential facilities through active foot, bike, and vehicle
patrols. - Detect and respond promptly to policy violations and potential safety concerns.
- Serve as a liaison with Residence
Life staff, Hall Directors, and Student Affairs to ensure coordinated safety efforts. - Assist with emergency and non-emergency
situations to protect the housing community members. - Prepare accurate, detailed incident reports using DPS reporting
systems. - Demonstrate proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Adapt to varying shifts (day, evening, night),
holidays, and special events with little notice. - Work outdoors in low-light conditions and extreme weather
environments. - Proficiency in the use of radios, computers, ticketing systems, and other essential equipment.
Ability to
pass all elements of the hiring process, including:
- Full background/ criminal history/ references check.
- Phase I
psychological suitability test. - Integrity interview.
- If conditionally offered employment: Phase II psychological exam,
medical exam, drug screen, credit check.
