Officer to perform duties needed to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the buildings and
grounds of the University of Iowa Health Care
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the
hospital - Assist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staff
- Perform security checks, patrol facility,
and monitor special assignments - Conduct incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-up
- Respond to and
assist in all incidents regarding safety and security - Respond to lock/unlock doors, troubleshoot elevator problems and extricate as
needed, and assist in traffic/parking enforcement - Respond to and resolve emergencies such as fire, HazMat, and security
alarms - Provide security surveillance of institution, including physiatric units
- Maintain a working knowledge of computers to
process data, operate fire alarm systems, and security systems - Escort to parking ramps and outlying areas
- Perform
safekeeping procedures - Provide effective oral and written communication
- Enforce all institution policies and
procedures - Ability to walk and climb stairs.
- Ability to lift and carry fifty pounds.
- Ability to work outside in
extreme weather conditions. - Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.

Starting Salary: $18.72/ hour plus shift
differential and potential over time

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Two years’
experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement; or- One year of post-high school education related to security
and safety and on year of experience in security and safety; or - Two years of post-high school education related to security and
safety
- One year of post-high school education related to security
- Possession of appropriate driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
- Ability to obtain
basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain
certification for duration of employment.
Desirable Requirements
- Two years of customer service
experience - Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)
- Exceptional
written and verbal communication skills
Key Training/Compliances:
- IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed
within 6 months of start date - Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour – to be completed in first 90 days
- Health
Safety Professional (HSP) – to be completed in first 90 days
