UTS OnDemand Dispatchers are responsible for training and supervising Parking and Transportation staff on an overnight schedule. In addition to training duties, OnDemand dispatchers are expected to issue, monitor, and collect department equipment, respond to radio transmissions, answer phone calls, book rides, respond to accidents and incidents, and communicate with the maintenance division.



Responsibilities:

  • Train and supervise Parking and Transportation staff on an overnight schedule.
  • Serve as primary radio contacts with drivers on the road. Respond to emergencies on route, investigate accidents, plan, and establish service detours and modifications.
  • Schedule drivers to cover shifts and maintain the online scheduling software.
  • Report mechanical issues to management and in-house maintenance staff.
  • Submit nightly service summaries stating the number of rides, detailing driver attendance and performance, and reporting any incidents that occur during service.
  • Control GPS interface.
  • Respond to public questions and concerns and book rides as requested.
  • Operate an OnDemand vehicle as required to support Parking and Transportation services.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: At least two years of experience within a fixed route or micro transit organization providing front-line customer service.
  • Licensure: Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Type A or B with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements or a valid State of Virginia Driver’s License. Must have a point balance of -3 or above via a good driving record on existing license.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Safe operation of a transit bus and/or rideshare vans requires sustained sitting, driving, pushing/pulling (steering wheel and various controls), repetitive motion, use of both hands, use of either hand, fine finger manipulation, and wrist movement. Safe operation also includes repetitive motion with both ankles/feet, with both possessing the strength and dexterity to fully depress the service brake and accelerator (right) and turn signal controls (left) present on the transit bus units within the Parking and Transportation fleet.



Boarding/alighting the transit bus and/or rideshare vans requires the ability to climb stairs (at least one step up/down). Successful operation of ADA Accessible equipment aboard the transit bus requires bending, lifting, and carrying. All of these physical requirements should be considered essential to the position.

Work performed during special events and as part of servicing the equipment requires standing, traveling, and the potential for bending, lifting, and carrying.



Salary Range

  • The anticipated hiring range is $19.00 – $21.50 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
