Job Summary

This position performs a wide range of
police assignments to help ensure the safety of Savannah State University’s students, faculty, staff and visitors and to protect University
property. The incumbent performs active patrol, monitors all activities taking place on campus and provides emergency assistance. This
position takes appropriate investigative actions to deter criminal activity as well as serves and maintains various constituencies of
Savannah State University. The incumbent may be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this
description.



NOTE: In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and

Responsibilities


  • Ensure a safe environment for the entire Savannah State
    community
  • Perform active patrol
  • Monitor activity; investigate suspicious activity
  • Assist with investigations as
    needed
  • Provide emergency assistance
  • Write accurate and concise incident and accident reports
  • Testify in a court of
    law as required
  • Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with constituency

Required Qualifications

  • High
    school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must successfully meet Georgia Peace Officer certification requirements
  • Must have a valid
    driver’s license in good standing
  • Excellent customer service skills and high professional standards, including the ability to
    maintain confidentially of highly sensitive information


Proposed Salary



The proposed salary range is $18.68 to
$20.17 per hour.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, criminal and traffic
    codes, search and seizure laws, Savannah State University policies and procedures and Department policies and procedures
  • Knowledge
    of traffic investigation techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of the University buildings and area
  • Knowledge of first-aid and
    CPR techniques
  • Knowledge of the court system and judicial procedures
  • Skilled in operating police vehicles, firearms,
    emergency equipment, and other standard and specialized law enforcement equipment
  • Skilled in interrogation and interviewing
    techniques
  • Skilled in restraining persons without causing physical harm
  • Skilled in using computers for word
    processing
  • Ability to meet current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officers
    Standards and Training Act
  • Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action based on
    surrounding hazards and circumstances
  • Ability to carry duty belt, other weapons, and evidence equipment and sometimes lifting and/or
    carrying of tires and debris, or of individuals in a rescue effort
  • Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working
    relationships with others
  • Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.
