strategic and operational leadership for UI Health Care’s Safety and Security programs. This position assists in planning, developing,
implementing, and evaluating department and hospital-wide initiatives to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff,
and all individuals present within UI Health Care. In addition to supporting UI Health Care, this position provides comprehensive safety and
security oversight, coordination, and consultation for UI Health Care Offsite locations. The Manager of Operations serves as a departmental
leader, collaborates with operational partners, supports emergency response efforts, and advances continuous improvement, regulatory
compliance, and staff excellence across all UI Health Care facilities.
Position
Responsibilities
Administration and Operational Management
- Assist the Director in the overall management of
departmental operations.. - Promote efficient departmental communication and coordination across all areas and shifts.
- Lead
and support process improvement activities through analysis of data, trends, and regulatory requirements to enhance patient, visitor, and
staff safety. - Collaborate with departmental leaders, Guest Services, and senior UI Health Care administration to identify
opportunities for standardization, service enhancement, and workflow optimization. - Assist in the development, implementation, and
evaluation of departmental policies, procedures, and operational practices. - Participate in planning and executing long-range program
objectives that elevate hospital-wide safety and security performance. - Support the Safety and Security team in emergency and
incident response activities. - Assist in collecting, organizing, and presenting documentation required for regulatory standards,
surveys, and audits. - Represent the department on work groups, task forces, and committees related to hospital wide safety, security,
and operations.
Committee representation
- Represent Safety and Security on hospital, safety, law enforcement,
threat-assessment, and athletics committees to support coordinated security planning and decision-making.
Strategic
Initiatives
- Assist in the preparation of the department’s annual report and other strategic planning documents.
- Promote
teamwork, service excellence, and continuous improvement within the department and across UI Health Care. - Conduct data analysis,
trend review, and regulatory interpretation to guide program enhancements and strategic decision-making. - Support the implementation
and optimization of security technologies, systems, and programs.
Human Resources Management
- Provide functional and
administrative supervision to a wide range of staff with a focus on fostering engagement, recognition, and professional
growth. - Participate in hiring processes, candidate selection, onboarding, and performance management in collaboration with
departmental leadership and HR partners. - Ensure staff adherence to UI and departmental policies and promote a culture of safety,
accountability, and service excellence. - Support development and monitoring of departmental budgets, staffing plans, and resource
allocations.
Occupational and Environmental Safety
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety management
systems that support workplace assessments, hazard reporting, documentation, and communication. - Support the Director and
Occupational Safety Manager in ensuring safety training meets regulatory standards. - Participate in hospital-wide oversight of
occupational safety programs, regulatory compliance, hazard control, and interpretation of applicable codes and standards. - Review
external inspection findings and support departmental compliance with safety and ergonomic standards.
Support for Off-Site Clinics
and Properties
- Collaborate with off-site UI Health Care facilities and UICC leadership on construction-related security planning and
implementation. - Partner with UICC leadership in managing behavioral safety concerns, including support for Workplace Safety
processes and Best Practice Alerts. - Coordinate scheduling and oversight of alarm testing (mobile, stationary, and lockdown
systems). - Coordinate training for Run Hide Fight and maintain staff readiness for emergency response.
- Conduct and monitor
Security Risk Assessments, ensuring ongoing follow-up and accountability for recommended improvements. - Oversee Key watcher
programming, key control processes, and compliance with Internal Audit requirements.
Project Management
- Coordinate Safety
and Security projects in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners. - Establish timelines, monitor progress,
track budgets, and ensure successful completion of departmental initiatives. - Work with technical security vendors to support
installation, configuration, and maintenance of security systems, including access control and digital video
technologies.
Committee representation
- Represent the Department of Safety and Security on institutional committees related
to hospital operations, construction, safety, law enforcement coordination, threat assessment, athletics, and other assigned
areas.

Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security administration, or related field required
or a relevant combination of experience and education in a leadership role.
- A working understanding of Safety Standards that revolves
around a hospital enterprise consists of various hospitals and off-site locations. - 3 years of relative leadership
experience - Reasonable experience (1-3 years) in process improvement
- 1-3 years of experience in public speaking and/or
training development and delivery - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to promote a welcoming work
environment for all
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience in workplace
safety/security - A safety/security professional certification
- Experience with Behavioral Health
departments - Experienced in JC and OSHA surveys.
- Law enforcement experience
- Knowledge in access control, video
surveillance, operations centers, and incident management - International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Supervisor
certification - Possession of any National Incident Management System (NIMS) certificates, such as IS-100, IS-200, IS-700a, or IS-800.
