Coordinator, Life Safety and Access Control – Central Campus
FUNCTION: Under the direction of the
manager of Facilities Support Services, maintains the operational integrity of the College’s Life Safety systems to include fire suppression
and alarm systems across approximately 75 buildings. This includes management of systems and contracts supporting those systems that are
integral to life safety of students, staff, and constituents of the College system. Provides physical security and operational support for
the facilities, access control and security systems. This also includes installation of components, maintenance of control systems and
mechanisms, access scheduling, and implementation of access systems for all College facilities.
Essential Job
Functions:
- Assure that you have complete knowledge of appropriate procedures and take measures to assure safe
outcomes for all tasks undertaken. - Ensures the operational integrity of life safety systems (e.g., fire suppression, alarms).
Monitor alarm and suppression systems using alarm management software. Initiate repair activities as appropriate. - Coordinate the
scheduling and support of scheduled inspections and testing of life safety systems with contracted vendors. Troubleshooting systems;
communicate with outside vendors, college employees, and leadership in the scheduling and notification of life safety maintenance
activities. - Complete monthly fire extinguisher inspections. Update asset management software and provide documentation to
departments requiring records for accreditation (NAYCE Accreditation, Bezos Academy, etc.). - Collect and maintain reports for
internal usage and for authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), ex: Fire Marshal. - Work with department leaders to manage warranty
issues for new construction and renovation related to access control and life safety needs. - Respond to alarm events and access
control issues at college facilities, provide necessary resources to correct problems or service interruptions. - Troubleshoot and
repair college access control systems, ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. - Electronically
schedule external door access as directed. - Create and issue hard keys and program electronic access for approved users.
- Scan and file access control records.
Additional Job Functions:
- Execute, comment,
and close work orders as necessary when work tasks are assigned. Other activities as assigned. - Support renovation and construction
projects to ensure life safety and security systems are integrated and compliant. - In the absence of Support Services Manager,
provide guidance and supervision in life safety activities. - Provide after hours on call support on a rotating schedule.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of fire alarm panels and system components.
- Basic troubleshooting and analytic skills.
- Basic exposure to fire alarm system processes, hardware, and panel
architecture. - Ability to read and interpret technical documentation.
- Ability to understand and operate access control
software systems. - Assess access control problems; plan, communicate, and implement solution with direction.
- Demonstrate
superior customer service skills.
Required Education:
- High school diploma or
GED
Preferred Education:
- 1 yr. post-secondary training, trade school education, life safety or
locksmith coursework.
Required Experience:
- 5 years work experience with electronic and
mechanical troubleshooting, repair, installation, and operating activities. - Competency in typical office suite software and basic
understanding of software applications.
Preferred Experience:
- 5-years commercial life safety
systems including fire alarm panel interface, fire suppression system, notification software, and / or access control experience, including
troubleshooting, repair, installation, and operating experience. - Exposure to Best Lock Systems (IC Core); experience in electronic
access control software. - One-year experience in an educational setting.
- Experience with multi-tiered commercial master key
systems. - Experience in opening failed locking mechanisms with minimal damage.
Required
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Texas Driver License
Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Texas Locksmith Association License and / or life safety certifications or licenses

Note: The duties of this position require physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during
unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.
Salary Grade: 109
Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary
