Summary:
To provide a clean, safe and pleasant environment for students, staff and visitors through effective and efficient performance of assigned environmental services functions and tasks


  • Ability to lift 35 lbs., 12 inches off the ground and place on a flatbed cart, lift 30 lbs. from floor to overhead.
    • Knowledge of the use of protective clothing and safety equipment
    • Exposure to noise and other adverse environmental conditions including cleaning equipment noise, exposure to weather in moving from one building to another in inclement weather, exposure to dust and dirt, exposure to cleaning chemicals and working on ladders and scaffolds.
    • Mandatory overtime required for special events such as commencement and others and as required.

    Essential Role Responsibilities:
    Follows the environmental services technician program for the area assigned within the guidelines provided by the environmental services supervisor and the manager such as: in the Health Science and Childcare Buildings environmental service technicians must use specialized cleaning techniques using accelerated hydrogen peroxide products, when wiping down surfaces and cleaning floors. Each individual is trained in this technique to prevent cross contamination. Individuals are also trained to properly dispose of general waste in these buildings and if blood borne pathogens are involved they are also trained to use the right PPE (personal protective equipment). Some examples of duties are:



    Maintains floors and carpets; vacuums, sweeps, wet mops and dry mops floor
    Wash walls, doors, partitions, windows, chalk boards and trash cans
    Wipe down all metals surfaces
    Set classrooms back to classroom setting
    Prepares items for recycling
    Dusts walls, furniture, computer/keyboards
    Detail cleaning weekly to include blinds, ledges, cabinets, vents, etc.
    Cleans and re-supplies restrooms including the urinal cartridges
    Clean steps in stairwells
    Communicates with clients to achieve a good working relationship and knowledge of the areas’ schedules and specific needs
    Report minor requests for repairs in their assigned areas of responsibility
    Dress tables for college events
    Keep supply and wet closets organized and clean
    Maintains a daily written schedule of activities performed
    Performs other duties as assigned

    Minimum Education Required:
    High School or equivalent


    Experience Required:
    1

    Preferred Experience:
    High School Diploma or equivalent.
    One year institutional or commercial housekeeping experience preferred.
    Knowledge of housekeeping chemicals and equipment and their operation.



    OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
    Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
