Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Summer Residential Advisor. Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
The Upward Bound (UB) program hosts a 6-week Summer Institute each year. For three-weeks, UB participants will live on UNG’s Dahlonega campus, attending academic and cultural classes designed to provide educational and cultural experiences. Upward Bound Summer Residential Advisors (SRA) are responsible for the well-being of UB students. Counseling, academic tutoring, and various types of supervision are all facets of this responsibility. During the UBSI 3-week residential component (except for weekends) the SRA is expected to keep close contact with the students in all aspects of community life. The SRA lives in the dorm among students and takes on the roles of teacher, counselor, and mentor. The SRA enforces program rules and codes of behavior and is expected to respond to loud noises and nighttime emergencies. SRAs should report serious breaches of program rules to the proper administrator. SRAs must sleep and reside in the program’s dormitory and be available for nighttime emergencies as well. SRA’s will also travel out-of-state for 1 week with participants during the college and cultural tour. Mandatory training will be during the week of May 26th. The tentative dates for the residential component are June 14th – July 10th, 2025. Compensation: $2,500 stipend as well as meals and room/board.
Please be advised that any offer of employment is contingent upon your eligibility to work in the United States. The university is aware of recent federal changes that may significantly increase the cost of filing H-1B visa petitions.
As a public institution, the university’s ability to cover such costs is subject to budgetary constraints and state funding policies. Therefore, while we remain committed to supporting international faculty hires, we cannot guarantee payment of any newly imposed or increased visa-related fees.
