Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Dining Services Worker A for Dining Services.


Among the key duties of this positions are the following:

  • Guides and instructs a group of Dining Services Workers in the performance of general and specialized food handing, dish room operations, and the maintenance of sanitary cash ops/dining Halls.
  • Provides dining room services, including cash register duties.
  • Performs any duties of the group.

Minimum Education and Experience


  • Six months food handling experience.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Ability to pass the Food Handler’s Certification.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate with customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a fine dining environment; bar tending; guiding and training wait staff; cashiering and cash handling.
  • Knowledge of Aloha or other POS.
  • Cash and credit card handling.
  • Experience in restaurant and banquets: reception, tableside service, a-la-carte service.
  • Proven ability to set up a buffet.
  • Bar service knowledge, basic wine, spirits and cocktail knowledge.
  • Ability to understand and gather equipment needs based on EventMaster packing lists.
  • Phone and in-person customer service.
  • Ability to take reservations and decide locations to sit guests based on floor plan assignments.

Physical Demands and Work Environment


  • Ability to stand for entire shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry food and equipment up stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Special Conditions

  • Shift/Hours: Sunday – Thursday 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm
  • Flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
