The Office of the Vice President and General Counsel (OVPGC) serves as legal counsel for the University. We advise
the Trustees and University Administration on all legal issues and serve as the point of contact on all legal matters involving the
University.


Job Summary

The Office of the Vice President and General Counsel (OVPGC) is seeking an Assistant
General Counsel in Bloomington or Indianapolis.

General Responsibilities


  • Drafts, reviews, revises,
    negotiates, and approves contracts and other legal documents.
  • Interprets and ensures university compliance with both state and
    federal statutes and regulations.
  • Confers with outside counsel and representatives of external entities to ensure the
    institution’s interests are best served.
  • Advises university administrators, faculty, and staff regarding legal matters that arise
    from the day-to-day management and operation of the institution.
  • Supports university leaders in achieving institutional compliance
    with existing and newly implemented federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Assists in advising university committees and task
    forces on the actions or policies under consideration and; reviews and responds to the university’s Open Records requests.

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.)


WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years Legal experience

CERTIFICATES



Required

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Indiana or eligible for
    admission to practice law in the state of Indiana within 6 months from date of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be
    insured by Indiana University Upon Date of Hire

Working Conditions / Demands


This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and
other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office
environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$115,000.00 annually
