Job Summary
The Civil Rights Investigator (Investigator), under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Civil Rights and Title IX Coordinator (AVP/Title IX Coordinator) will conduct investigations into reports of discrimination, and harassment, including sexual and gender-based harassment. The Investigator will also assist in the performance of compliance-related duties, including but not limited to, the development of policies and procedures related to Title IX and other civil rights laws, and the facilitation of trainings that foster a culture of respect and inclusion as well as conducting intake operations and providing supportive measures.
Responsibilities
- Conduct intake meetings with faculty, staff, students, and unaffiliated complainants reporting violations of the College’s Civil Rights policy.
- Conduct thorough, unbiased, and prompt investigations into allegations of discrimination, harassment, sexual violence, sexual exploitation, intimate partner violence, stalking, and related retaliation.
- Review allegations and prepare investigative plan while coordinating party and witness interviews.
- Conduct interviews using a trauma informed approach to sensitive topics.
- Maintain detailed, consistent, and accurate records from interviews and other gathered evidence.
- Produce clear, concise, and well written reports objectively summarizing all evidence gathered.
- Present investigation findings at college hearings.
- Engage in on-going assessment and implementation of supportive measures for parties.
- Maintain awareness of resources and supports available through the College for faculty, staff, and students.
- Partner with the Title IX Coordinator/Deputy Title IX Coordinator to ensure that supportive measures are updated regularly to meet the evolving needs of parties throughout an investigation.
- Assist in creating and delivering training for faculty, staff, and students regarding the work of the Office for Civil Rights and Title IX.
- Contribute to ongoing development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the Office for Civil Rights and Title IX.
- Represent the Office for Civil Rights and Title IX on various campus working groups and committees.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus a minimum of two years of investigation experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency with MS Office suite and other databases.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly establish rapport with faculty, staff, and students from across different cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex, highly sensitive situations.
- Strong project management skills to effectively organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks with accuracy, flexibility, confidentiality, and empathy.
- Demonstrated commitment to antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and experience operating through an ADEI lens.
- Knowledge and continued understanding of state and federal civil rights related laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- JD or master’s degree in a related field. Prior experience conducting investigations involving allegations of discrimination or harassment.
- Prior training related to trauma informed practices.
- Experience working in a higher education environment.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:
- $62,653 to $75,183 per year
