Description

University Police Department – Northern Command is conducting a recruitment for a current opening for a University
Police Officer 2. This position will be assigned to the Great Basin College Campus in Elko, NV. The primary patrol area for
University Police Department – Northern Command encompasses all Nevada System of Higher Education facilities in the Elko Nevada area, and
periodically to the Great Basin College facilities statewide (Winnemucca, Ely, and Pahrump).



The University Police Officer 2 will
work under general supervision, performing journey level law enforcement duties including: protecting university employees, students, and
the general public; patrolling and safeguarding the university system properties and surrounding areas; conducting traffic investigations;
conducting criminal and non-criminal investigations; preparing for security and law enforcement activities surrounding special events;
preparing for appearances in court; performing maintenance on assigned equipment; performing special assignments related to law enforcement
and peace officer functions; and maintaining law and order, among other duties.

Required Qualifications


  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one (1) year of law enforcement experience;
    OR

  • Associate of Arts degree or equivalent coursework in criminal justice, police science, psychology, or closely
    related field and six (6) months of law enforcement experience; OR


  • One (1) year of experience as a University Police
    Officer I in Nevada State service.



Must have graduated from an accredited law enforcement academy and meet Nevada P.O.S.T.
requirements (NAC 289.120). P.O.S.T. Category I certification must be current; OR, a P.O.S.T Category I certification up to two (2)
years will be accepted from applicants who are currently employed with another law enforcement agency (NAC 289.200.2).



Pursuant to
NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a
pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

This position requires having a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment
and as a condition of continued employment.



Schedule

The typical work schedule is varied; this is subject to change
based on organizational needs. Applicants must be able and willing to work any shift, weekends, and holidays.

University Police Department – Northern Command

The department is a full-service police department
comprised of patrol operations, administration and a detective division. Services include a canine program, walking and bicycle patrols, and
a pro-active, selective traffic enforcement program and takes a leadership role in preparing the University to respond to large-scale crises
and events. The department consists of 50 employees (23 full-time sworn officers, 7 sworn part-time, 8 non-sworn part-time, and 12 full &
part-time civilian support staff).
