Pay Range
Compensation for this position is expected to range between $31.44 and $33.44 per hour, in alignment with what California Baptist University (CBU) reasonably anticipates paying for this role. The final rate may vary depending on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and prevailing market conditions. Summary
Assists the Director and Assistant Director of Safety Services in varied department duties; by ensuring compliance with University policies, local, state, and federal laws and patrolling University property. Responds to emergency calls to protect persons or property from crimes or other hazards. May be assigned to any shift, which could include working holidays and weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide first line supervision and guidance to department employees in the performance of their duties, and adherence to University and department policies.
- Prepare and file daily activity reports with superior officer.
- Review and approve, or return for correction, investigation reports by employees under immediate supervision.
- Receive, investigate, and document complaints of poor service, misconduct, or malfeasance by department employees.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency radio calls.
- Attend to emergency requests as they arise and render on-site emergency assistance as required within specified protocol and procedures.
- Patrol University property, in a vehicle or on foot, to provide security and traffic control, and apprehend suspected violators of the law.
- Investigate and prepare written reports of crimes, accidents, incidents involving potential University liability, violations of University rules, and/or miscellaneous incidents in accordance with University and department policies.
- Provide building and facility security, including locking and unlocking of doors and gates.
- Provide escort and public assistance services to visitors, students, staff, and faculty.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Exercise supervisory oversight in accordance with applicable law and University and department policies. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees within University and department policy; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; and requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers; and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. Moderate physical activity, requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. Work may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work also could be performed in a typical interior/office work environment, with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and be currently employed with the CBU Department of Safety Services for a minimum of six months with the most recent Annual Performance Evaluation having no area rated as “Needs Improvement” or lower.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/PERMITS: Must possess the following and maintain certification and demonstrated proficiency as a condition of continued employment:
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Must possess and maintain at employee’s expense a valid California Department of Consumer Affairs Guard Registration Card as a condition of continued employment.
- Must possess and maintain at employee’s expense a valid California Department of Consumer Affairs Firearm permit as a condition of continued employment.
