POSITION PURPOSE
The Slate Analyst, as a part of Advancement Strategies and Operation in Development and Alumni Relations at Whitman College, manages and optimizes Slate to support donor relations and alumni engagement. Reporting to the Director of Advancement Strategies and Operation, this role partners with stakeholders across the division to provide reporting, analytics and systems expertise that supports data-informed decision making.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Database Management (40%)
- Manage the Slate CRM database and other related databases, tools, systems, and applications.
- Serve as an expert on Slate tools including form building, deliver mailings, events, queries, reports, portals and others as they are introduced.
- Provide ongoing training and technical support to campus users of Slate for Advancement.
Systems Administration (20%)
- Coordinate all administration of systems, most of which are SAAS, including system-wide settings, installations/onboarding, and offboarding.
- Responsible for creating and executing all data exchanges between systems.
- Create, manage and inactivate users and permissions to ensure both access and security.
- Participate or lead all system selection projects with an emphasis on meeting business needs while ensuring data privacy and security.
- Serve as PeopleGrove administrator for the College.
Data Analysis, Report Writing, and Business Intelligence (30%)
- Maintain, enhance and audit Slate queries, reports and dashboards.
- Develop forms and portal templates, email templates and portals utilizing CSS, JavaScript and Liquid Mark-up.
- Utilize advanced Slate reporting by modifying, delivering and creating custom reports.
- Support data-informed business practices through data organization, analysis and reporting to aid in decision-making.
Task and Project Management (10%)
- Manage, scope, prioritize, and complete tasks within deadlines that meet requirements.
- Collaborate and communicate with the Director on barriers and status updates.
- Provide project management support for departmental technology projects.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must be able to explain and/or demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Specifically,
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office and Google applications, especially Excel and Sheets.
- Data analysis and/or report writing experience.
- Good time management, organizational and decision-making skills.
- Excellence in directly supporting and training end-users at all levels of understanding.
- Ability to work independently, and with a team, to manage projects and juggle multiple assignments. Demonstrated excellence in task, project, and program management.
- Strong sense of professional ethics and confidentiality standards. Position requires safeguarding of confidential information.
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Experience documenting and training on policies and procedures.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools, such as Tableau.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate stakeholders, and meet deadlines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3+ years of experience in technology support, report writing, database management and/or systems administration.
- 3+ years of experience in the field of information technology, database management or a related discipline.
- Thorough knowledge of Technolutions Slate and full understanding of Portals, Deliver, Events, Workflows, Fields and Prompts, Queries, Reports, Rules, and Upload Datasets.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or related discipline.
- 3+ years of Slate-specific experience in Enrollment and or Advancement.
- 3+ years using Power BI, SQL, CSS or JavaScript.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position may work up to 40% hybrid (if working in Walla Walla) or 100% remote (must be located in OR or WA).
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
- Some travel may be required for conferences, training or events.
- Position requires extended time at the computer.
