About the Department and/or College
Davis College includes the departments of Agricultural
and Applied Economics, Agricultural Education and Communications, Animal and Food Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resources
Management, Plant and Soil Science, and Veterinary Sciences along with multiple research centers and institutes. The College has over 100
tenure-track faculty, 2747 undergraduate and 519 graduate students, numerous other staff employees, and generated approximately $16 million
in extramural research funding.



The PSS Department is a comprehensive academic unit conducting research and offering coursework and
programs in several areas of plant and soil sciences. There are 36 full-time faculty members and a student body consisting of approximately
180 undergraduate and 140 graduate students. B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. level degrees are offered in Plant and Soil Science. Additionally,
distance education courses and four certificate programs are offered. The department is research-intensive, while fostering strong teaching
expectations and commitments. Students in the department are educated to meet the challenge of using soil, water, and plant resources for
sustainable production and environmental quality.



Major/Essential Functions
ASSISTANT TO THE DEPARTMENT
CHAIR:

  • Assist the Department Chair with maintaining daily schedule.
  • Assist with scheduling/organizing/and taking minutes at
    the monthly faculty meetings
  • Assist with annual faculty evaluations and maintaining the required documentation
  • Scheduling of
    appointments for New Faculty Interviews (as needed)
  • Any other duties as needed

DEPARTMENT JOB DUTIES:


  • Answer
    incoming phone calls
  • Reservations for the Department Conference Room
  • Distribute incoming mail (twice daily)
  • Work
    with department committees
  • Administrator for the PSS Department BioRender account
  • Work closely with the IT department
    Program Manager to maintain the department inventory tag system
  • Maintain Faculty/Staff Directory & Teams Channel
    Membership
  • Contacting Shredding Service to pick up/drop off shred bin
  • SECC Coordinator – Contact for the annual United Way
    Campaign

DEPARTMENT BUILDING AND VEHICLE MANAGEMENT:

  • Building Coordinator – issuing keys through the KMS system, placing
    work orders
  • Vehicle Management – submitting monthly vehicle reports to fleet services,
  • Submitting Driver Approval Forms to
    Risk Management
  • Handling of Voyager charges/cards and Fueling Site Charges
  • Vehicle Inventory – Keep track of all PSS
    Vehicles/Tractors/Equipment

DEPARTMENT COMMUNICATION & OUTREACH:


  • Monthly Donation Letters to donors who have donated to
    programs within the department
  • Work with Davis College communications team to keep department social media and websites up to date
    and design/update flyers, programs and invitations for departmental events.
  • Maintain and order department swag & promotional
    materials
  • Responsible for cleaning off bulletin boards in the Bayer Plant Science (BPS) Hallway at the end of each
    semester
  • Sending Departmental announcements
  • Update materials for the BPS Atrium and Main Office
    Televisions
  • Maintaining mailing list for and help design PSS calendars sent out on a yearly basis
  • Main contact for planning
    Department Events (room reservations, invitations, catering services)

Required Qualifications
Completion of high school
or the equivalent. Five years office experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year
basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with TTU systems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Applications, especially
    TEAMS
  • Familiarty with design software such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite


Pay Range
$17.69 – $22.98 –
$28.32
