The Position

This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Academic & Tutoring Support Services. The P/T STEM Center Specialist
supervises and provides mentoring and training support for student workers and professional tutors in the STEM Center. This position spends
about 50% of their time providing tutorial sessions to students in STEM content (sciences and mathematics).

What You Will Do


  1. Provide one-on-one and group tutoring in STEM subjects (sciences and mathematics).
  2. Assist students in developing
    problem-solving strategies and mastering STEM concepts.
  3. Foster student engagement by guiding study sessions and implementing active
    learning techniques.
  4. Stay updated on STEM curriculum and best practices in tutoring to provide effective academic
    support.
  5. Identify student learning challenges and recommend appropriate resources or interventions.
  6. Supervise STEM peer and
    temporary tutors, sign timesheets, conduct weekly meetings to provide guidance, assign tasks, and ensure accountability of direct
    reports.
  7. Oversee training and onboarding of new peer and professional tutors.
  8. Assist the coordinator and the Assistant
    Director with database maintenance and tracking STEM tutoring sessions.
  9. Ensure tutors stay current on curriculum changes and
    instructional methods through ongoing development and training.
  10. Participate in institutional activities such as colloquiums,
    commencement, and workshops as assigned.
  11. Manage related projects and administrative tasks as needed.

The
Successful Candidate Must Have

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Math
    (STEM) is highly desirable; however, an associate’s degree and an additional two years of related experience (total of 4 years) may be
    substituted in lieu of the bachelor’s degree.
  2. Two years of prior experience providing STEM tutorial support.
  3. Experience
    working with students in higher education.
  4. Demonstrated ability to serve as team/project leader and/or assist with supervision of
    others.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a database system; ability to create standard/new reports with limited oversight;
    prior use of online platforms and sites.

Even Better If You Have



1. Bilingual.
2.
Bachelor’s degree in STEM-related field.
3. Prior supervisory experience.
