Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the Test Proctor’s responsibilities include welcoming and checking in test candidates, verifying ID, and administering a variety of exams. The proctor also monitors candidates during testing. The proctor works and interacts effectively with students, instructors, college staff, and examinees for different vendors to create to create a secure, efficient and courteous testing environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities


  • Models excellent customer service in dealing with all Testing Services visitors.
  • Greet testers and verify ID’s for testing.
  • Check testers in for exam appointment.
  • Provide exam instructions and ensure unauthorized items are not taken into testing area(s).
  • Assign seating area and seat testers.
  • Launch computer and/or paper formatted exams.
  • Check testers out after exam completion.
  • Proctor exams via video surveillance and walk through of exam areas.
  • Ensure integrity of exam material and act quickly during exam misconduct.
  • Monitor for academic misconduct and report any academic misconduct or exam discrepancy immediately to faculty and supervisor.
  • Ensure testers submit all items used during exam(s) and ensure nothing is take out of the testing center facility.
  • Handle and maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
  • Organize and file exam materials both in paper and electronic formats accurately.
  • Look up student information in College Information System(s).
  • Enforce and uphold polices and procedures firmly and courteously.
  • Ability to work in fast and stressful environment(s).
  • Provide accurate and consistent information and instruction in a concise, clear, and professional manner.
  • Must be able to multi-task and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Assist departmental personnel with other duties as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of check-in, work station(s), and testing areas that require use of cleaning materials.
  • Operate office equipment.
  • Exercise judgment and discretion.
  • Answer phones.
  • Physical demands require to sit, stand, walk and regularly stoop, kneel, bend or crouch.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be able to work designated scheduled hours

Preferred Qualifications


  • Some college
  • 1-year office, reception, or customer service experience
  • Experience working with confidential information
  • Working at a previous testing center a plus
  • Bilingual -Spanish (ability to speak and communicate in fluent Spanish)
