Job Description:


The Department of Teacher Education at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Special Education, beginning Fall 2026.

This position is a 9-month, academic-year appointment with the opportunity for summer employment. The ideal candidate will have experience delivering classes in various modalities, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid instruction. This faculty member is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate-level special education courses, as well as other education courses as needed.



Job Duties:


Duties:

  • Assume a full-time teaching load of 12 hours per semester
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level special education courses, as well as other education courses as needed.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees
  • Participate in scholarly activities, including publishing, presenting, and/or grant writing
  • Render professional service to campus and community
  • Interact positively with colleagues, students, and local school personnel
  • Supervise students in field experience and student teaching
  • Advise masters students on M.Ed. projects

Required Qualifications:


Required:

  • Earned a doctorate in special education or a closely related field by August 1, 2026
  • At least 3 years of Pre-K to post high school special education teaching experience in public or accredited private schools with demonstrated skill in differentiating instruction and managing student behavior.
  • Experience teaching students with mild/moderate disabilities

Preferred Qualifications:


Preferred:

  • Ability to model current, best teaching theory and practice
  • Knowledge of special education law and implementing IEPs
  • Experience in conducting Functional Based Assessments and developing Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Knowledge of best practices in instructional planning for students with and without disabilities.
  • Evidence of scholarly writing (e.g. research, grant writing)
  • Clear research agenda
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with others
  • Field-based supervision experience
  • Active in professional organizations (e.g., Council for Exceptional Children)

Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.



Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
