Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Fairmont State University is excited to invite applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer to join our dedicated Sports Medicine team. As an Assistant Athletic Trainer, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to our student-athletes, helping them stay healthy, recover from injury, and compete at their best. You’ll work closely with coaches, physicians, and fellow athletic training staff while gaining valuable experience across multiple sports programs.

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Associate A.D. for Sports Medicine – Head Athletic Trainer, this role supports all aspects of athletic training services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. You’ll also contribute to daily operations, game coverage, and coordination of care for assigned teams.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide comprehensive athletic training services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation
  • Attend and support team practices and competitions (home and away as assigned)
  • Build strong relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and medical providers
  • Assist in coordinating medical care, referrals, and pre-participation physicals
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation, records, and insurance claims
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room and facilities
  • Assist with equipment and supply management
  • Contribute to game day operations and event coverage
  • Ensure compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations

Minimum Required Education

Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field


Required Licenses and/or Certifications

Candidate must be NATA/BOC certified. CPR/AED certification is required. Also, candidate must be eligible for West Virginia Athletic Training Licensure.



Minimum Required Qualifications

Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Relevant clinical rotations, internships, or graduate assistant experience will be considered.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in intercollegiate athletics
  • At least one (1) year of professional experience (including graduate assistant experience may be considered)
