Preventative Maintenance Electrician II
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains common electrical infrastructures and components
- Guides and supports lighting technicians and fire alarm technicians as needed
- Maintains daily record keeping such as work order updates, timekeeping, and email
- Evaluates electrical deficiencies and advises department staff on repairs. Assists and supports electrical contractors
- Organizes, plans, and ensures tools, equipment, personal protective equipment, and materials available in response to electrical or fire alarm emergencies
- Performs operational preventive maintenance tasks such as emergency generator testing and sprinkler testing
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code
- Knowledge of basic office computer software such as Microsoft Office
- Skill in written and verbal communication
- Skill in repair of electrical meters and use of test equipment
- Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics
- Ability to use power hand tools
Minimum Education & Experience
- High School diploma or GED
- 4 years of related experience
- 4 years of formal electrical training program
- Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

Operations, Administrative, Service, or Technical Support Level 2 – An intermediate level role with working foundational knowledge and skills to perform routine and occasionally non-routine tasks. Tasks may require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures. May provide assistance to entry level staff.

As part of the FMS Utilities Maintenance team, the Preventative Maintenance Technician plays a vital role by performing preventive and corrective maintenance on interior and exterior fire alarm and electrical building components.

Schedule
The schedule for this position could encompass various shifts, weekends, holidays, and times other than normal work schedules. The successful candidate must provide contact information to be used for an on-call phone listing for reporting to work in off hours or urgent situations such as extreme weather conditions including when the campus is closed.
Driver’s License Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to drive on occasion and must, upon hire, immediately enroll in the New York State License Event Notification Service (NYS LENS) program. Candidates may refer to RIT’s Vehicle and Driver Safety Procedures for additional information.
