Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a 2026 Summer SLI Chinese Resident Tutor. The Summer Language Institute (SLI) is an intensive, residential language program. The SLI covers the content of two semesters (1001 + 1002) of language learning in a 7-week period. Resident Tutors are an integral part of the program; they work under the supervision of SLI faculty and in collaboration with the tutors to provide assistance to SLI students. Resident tutors are required to live on-campus during the duration of the program. Upon hiring, students will be required to submit their summer housing contract, room deposit, and pay for their own room and board. Resident tutors may be responsible for activities such as supervising student behavior in the residence hall, coordinating with other languages for the use of residence hall facilities such as kitchen, common areas, etc. Resident tutors may also assist in taking attendance, monitoring language lab sessions, assisting students in language assignments such as conversation drills, homework, test preparation, etc. Resident tutors are expected to attend extra-curricular activities and assist the instructor in the preparation and logistics of such activities. Resident tutors are expected to work 7 days/week, including weekends during the program. Resident tutors report June 5, 2026. Program dates: June 6 – July 24, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Live in the residence hall and supervise SLI student residents.
  • Coordinate with the resident tutors of other language groups regarding the use of the facilities. Reserve the kitchen for the cooking contest, the classroom/media room for movies, etc.
  • Engage the students in conversing in the target language. Be firm, strict, and encouraging when working with the students on their oral assignments. Set a good example for the student participants.
  • Keep the program director/administration informed about the student activities in the residence hall.
  • Help students with their homework, projects, preparation for class, tests, exams, etc
  • Grade homework and quizzes under the instructor’s supervision.
  • Take attendance, monitor lab sessions, meal times, and other scheduled activities. Participate in extra-curricular activities.
  • Perform other tasks designated by the instructor.

Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma required.
  • College level language courses completed at the 2002-level minimum.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Native or near-native language proficiency preferred.
  • Previous experience in intensive language programs preferred.
  • Current UNG student preferred.
