The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an
internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites nominations and
applications for a part-time Professional Writing and Speaking Consultant Generalist within the FIT Writing and Speaking Studio.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Generalist Responsibilities include a focus on mentoring
peer tutors by:
- Modeling consulting practices through individual and group sessions with students and faculty on written and
oral communication projects for FIT course work and professional projects. - Facilitating undergraduate and graduate peer writing and
speaking consultants to develop reflective practice through session observation and consultant-led debriefs. - Assisting the directors
with and participating in ongoing staff and faculty development. - Conducting classroom informational visits and
workshops. - Developing resources for teaching and learning.
- Developing student-facing workshops on special
topics. - Supporting day-to-day operations of the Writing and Speaking Studio.

scholarship, and professional development are available.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must hold or be actively pursuing a
master’s degree or higher in Composition Studies, Communication Studies, or a related field within their area of communication
specialization. - 2+ years working in a writing or communication center with mentorship responsibilities and/or experience consulting
with graduate students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a writing/communication
center using a peer-tutoring model. - Experience teaching writing or teaching public speaking.
- Experience collaborating with
faculty or supporting faculty development. - Evening and weekend availability.

Information:

Salary
Salary: $33 per hour
Work Schedule
Days/Hours: 8 – 16 hours per week during FIT Writing and Speaking Studio hours of operation; in person; work schedule subject to change
based on needs of the department.
FIT Writing and Speaking Studio hours of operation: M-TH, 10am – 8pm; Fri, 10am – 6pm; Sun, 3-7pm

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The working conditions for this position will be primarily in an
office space. The physical requirement for this position will require constant sitting, occasional standing, occasional bending, occasional
walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.
