Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Facilities Operations Unit reports directly to the
Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for providing housekeeping services throughout NCCU Campus.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this
position is to supervises and train staff on proper cleaning procedures and techniques; ensure the buildings that are cleaned are covered
daily by technicians and that they have the supplies needed to do their duties; ensure staff, building keys, radios and gators are signed
out and in daily; ensure that SMARTTime leave reports are completed properly, approved, and submitted by established deadline; ensure that
MSD sheets are posted in janitor’s closet and that employees are trained on the use of sheets; report all safety
problems or accidents as required; follow up with Building Environmental Services Manager to ensure that corrective measures are taken and
maintained; make recommendations on matters of hiring, promotions, and disciplinary action; advise Building Environmental Services Manager
on inventory; ensure that buildings being cleaned are inspected regularly to minimize customer complaints; assess customer complaints and
suggest means of resolution shift staff accordingly to accommodate absenteeism and other issues that may create customer complaints. An
additional duty employee has assumed in the absence of the Housekeeping Administrator includes ordering and managing supplies. Employee also
responds to problems immediately, provides feedback and resolves housekeeping issues. Oversees pesticide contract and directs them as needed
to the locations on campus. Directs contracted housekeeping including quality assurance assessments and remediation services as
needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a
working knowledge of the university’s cleaning and training procedures; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word and Excel)
Applications; knowledge of record management; knowledge of inspecting buildings for cleanliness and generate reports based on findings;
knowledge of supervising and creating a team environment among staff; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take
initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions;
to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules;
excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills, excellent editing; great interpersonal
skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure
environment.
Minimum Education/Experience
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of
experience in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require Certification or
eligibility for Certification.
