Primary Function of Organizational Unit


Information Technology Services, in collaboration with the
campus community, provides technological solutions and services for students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the NCCU mission and strategic plan.

Information Security Services, is responsible for advancing and supporting the
university’s cybersecurity, governance, risk management, and compliance initiatives. The office works collaboratively with the rest of
Information Technology Services and campus stakeholders to protect institutional information assets, support regulatory and policy
requirements, reduce institutional cyber risk, and promote a culture of information security awareness while enabling the university’s
academic, research, and administrative mission.



Primary Purpose of Position

The IT Security
Professional, Analyst supports the institution’s information security program through risk management, compliance, vulnerability management,
and security operations activities. This role emphasizes both proactive and reactive cybersecurity practices, policy development and
validation, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to protect institutional data, systems, and research
assets.



The position reports to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), assisting with implementing
and maintaining security controls, responding to cybersecurity events, supporting governance and compliance initiatives, and promoting
security best practices across the university environment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with information
    security concepts including vulnerability management, incident response, identity and access management, endpoint security, email security,
    and risk management.
  • Ability to analyze, investigate, and respond to cybersecurity events, alerts, and operational issues.
  • Familiarity with enterprise technologies, cloud-based services, and security-related platforms.
  • Ability to develop, maintain,
    and interpret security documentation, governance, and technical information.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving,
    and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical
    audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse university environment while managing multiple
    priorities

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity,
    Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional
    experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience supporting information security, cybersecurity, systems administration,
    networking, compliance, or related information technology functions, including familiarity with cybersecurity principles, enterprise
    technologies, and cloud-based environments.
  • Relevant internships, military experience, technical training, industry certifications
    such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, Microsoft SC-900, SC-200, SC-300, ISC2 SSCP, ISACA
    CISA certifications, or equivalent hands-on experience may be considered.

  • Monitor, investigate, and respond to cybersecurity alerts, incidents, and
    suspicious activity.
  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of security technologies, controls, and
    operational processes across endpoint, identity, cloud, email, and network environments.
  • Assist with vulnerability management,
    access management, risk assessments, security reviews, and cybersecurity projects intended to strengthen the institution’s security
    posture.
  • Participate in incident response activities including triage, containment, remediation, documentation, and
    escalation.

Function
Research

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to
the function.


  • Research emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices relevant
    to higher education and enterprise environments.
  • Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of security policies,
    standards, procedures, compliance activities, and operational documentation.
  • Support audit activities, third-party security
    reviews, and evaluation of security technologies and services.

Function
Communication and Consultation

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.


  • Collaborate with university
    departments, technical teams, vendors, and external stakeholders to provide guidance on cybersecurity initiatives, institutional security
    practices, policies, standards, and risk reduction efforts.
  • Support institutional security awareness and phishing education
    initiatives across the university community.
  • Communicate technical security information effectively to both technical and
    non-technical audiences in support of the operational and strategic cybersecurity objectives of the university and the Information Security
    Office.
