The
Assistant Director of Payroll is responsible for the efficient execution of payroll processing for faculty, staff, and student employees in
compliance with federal and state labor laws, University policies, and union contracts
You will:
- Assist
with the administrative responsibility of processing the University’s Payroll - Process the semi-monthly payroll and act as backup on
the weekly payroll - Assist with coordinating the ADP multi-state employment tax process with ADP for the University
- Assist
with reconciling local, state, and federal taxes - Analyze payroll data, deductions and garnishments for accuracy and research
discrepancies or inconsistencies using custom reports - Process manual checks, voids, and payroll adjustments
- Ensure all
payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely in accordance with University policies and procedures - Participate in
audits and prepare materials and information required - Maintain accurate payroll records and employee files
- Answer
inquiries regarding employment verifications - Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters
- Manage
the Payroll Office in the absence of the Director of Payroll - Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping
information confidential - Perform other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic
level and responsibilities of the position
You need:
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, Accounting
or related field, MBA a plus - A minimum of three years of experience working in payroll
- Experience with multi-state and
federal taxes, filing, and compliance - Excellent computer skills including high level proficiency in Excel
- Must have the
ability to work independently with minimal supervision - Knowledge of Banner HR/Payroll software a plus
- Must demonstrate a
strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism - Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred
- Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
- Must be detail oriented and able to adhere to tight deadlines with excellent organizational skills
