Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a Research Assistant to support the work of Dr. Andrey Grigoriev at CCIB. The research will encompass computational studies of whole genomes and/or genome sequences. The support involves developing functional software in Python for analysis of large-scale sequencing datasets, using machine learning methods, for Unix/Windows/Mac platforms. Duties will also include writing reports with illustrations, analytical findings, narratives and conclusions, regarding study results.
Position duties will include: software development and analysis, from planning to implementation and usage (outcomes being functional software and analytical findings; duties performed using Python programming language); visualization and interpretation (outcomes being illustrations and conclusions regarding study results and analytical findings; duties performed using standard and self-developed visualization tools for genomics); report writing (outcomes being reports with illustrations, narratives and conclusions regarding study results; duties performed using Office software).
This is a six month position.
This is a grant funded position contingent upon the availability of funds to support it.

Salary Details
$22.50 per hour

Working Hours
20 hours per week
Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Terms of Appointment: Staff – 12 month
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Masters degree in a related field to computational biology, computer science or bioinformatics, with at least three years of practical experience. Working knowledge and demonstratable skills of programming in Python; of analyses of next-generation sequencing data and of statistical data analysis and machine learning methods. Good communications skills (written and oral) in these research areas.
