Position Summary:
The Financial Aid Advisor plays a critical role in determining and communicating student eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Provides comprehensive financial aid counseling and advising to current and prospective students and their families, guiding them through educational financing options, budgeting, and resource management. Accurate awarding and timely resolution of aid issues directly support student enrollment, retention, and academic success-core to the University’s educational mission. This position’s impact directly affects USF Health’s ability to recruit and retain qualified students and meet accreditation requirements.
This position will be based at the MCOM Main Campus and the Downtown Campuses.
This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship.
Responsibilities

Manages the flow, security, and confidentiality of all documents received and verifies the accuracy of applicant information and files in accordance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines. Research and formulate responses to student inquiries, providing accurate and timely information to prevent delayed funding, student withdrawal, or institutional noncompliance with Title IV regulations, which can lead to audits, financial penalties, or reputational damage.

Reviews confidential information from applicant files to adjust awards and loan records. Review and manually award students based on exception processing, such as academic Leave of Absences and withdrawals, including R2T4. Refers students who are not in compliance with the appropriate areas and assists students in correcting excessive borrowing situations when they occur, as well as returning to the lender the portion of the loan that exceeds federal limits.

Serves as an information resource to address any issues relating to compliance and financial aid and effectively communicates with other USF student services staff or administrators, guarantor agencies, other schools, students, and parents to resolve loan and data conflicts. Provide Financial Literacy and debt management counseling to students. Provide concierge-level services to students at USF Health, including counseling.

Administers and processes scholarship and grant awarding, including data entry of transactions through electronic transfer and manual input.

Reviews and evaluates requests for professional judgment exceptions and makes appropriate adjustments as determined necessary to comply with Federal, State, and University Policy.

Assist with the creation and editing of regular publication or summary reports. Assist with the development of reports for internal and external entities, including accreditation agencies and USF Health leadership.

Consults with the Director regarding policies, trends, and program needs following specific instructions. Make recommendations for improvement to overall processes. Provides support for financial aid quality assurance-other duties as assigned.

Develops and presents outreach activities, including workshops, events, and presentations. May include work after hours or weekends.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum of one year of professional experience in financial aid, student services, or related areas is required; however, a minimum of two years of demonstrated customer service experience may substitute for the entire one-year experience requirement.
SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
- Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
- Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
- Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
- Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
- Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
- Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
- Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master’s degree with one to three years (within the last 3 years) of experience administering Title IV aid in a Financial Aid Office.
