The Critical Care Hospitalist (PA or ARNP) will provide care for patients who require hospitalization for the detection and treatment of illnesses within the Surgical and Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (SNICU). This role includes a mix of day and night coverage, with approximately 50% of shifts scheduled overnight.
What you will do:
- Assess the health status of patients through history taking and physical examination. Order and interpret appropriate medical tests and laboratory values to assist in making a diagnosis. Prescribe drugs and medical devices used for patient intervention.
- Collaborate with other health care providers to provide and coordinate care given in the SNICU. Assist in the education of residents and medical students rotating through the SNICU.
- Document patient encounters, assessments, diagnoses, and plans of care in the medical record.
- Provide information and counseling to patients and families.

What you will need:
Required Qualifications:
- ARNP- A Master’s degree is required. A Master’s degree or DNP in Nursing is preferred. If Master’s degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required. Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.
- PA- Graduation from an accredited PA educational program. Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Contributes to a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
