Under
moderate supervision, assists Master Waste & Recycling Technician, or Waste & Recycling Technician Class 1 or 2 by helping load and
transport various waste materials or surplus items using large waste collection vehicle, box truck, or stake body. Additionally, may be
required to operate a small utility vehicle to collect trash, recycling, or organic waste (compost) throughout campus.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Hooks up
    and/or operates compactors, waste receptacles, and dumpsters throughout campus.
  • Operates vehicle in accordance with all local,
    municipal, state and federal laws.
  • Immediately reports any unsafe situations to supervisor or Public Safety.
  • Attends and
    participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings required by the University.
  • Works closely with supervisor
    to improve route efficiency and identify best practices.
  • Follows route assignments as directed and completes any required
    documentation.
  • Immediately notifies supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Notifies
    supervisor of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, street, alleyways, or potential safety hazards.
  • Identifies and reports all containers in need of repair or replacement.
  • Performs any necessary housekeeping in and around trash
    enclosures, truck, or other equipment.
  • Carries out all job duties as defined under other job classifications normally assigned to
    the Grounds Division, such as Gardener.
  • Performs other duties assigned within the normal scope of the department’s responsibilities
    and the individual’s capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to follow both verbal and written
    directions.
  • Ability to interact with customers (students, faculty, administration) in a positive and helpful manner.
  • Must
    be able to climb ladders, to bend and reach, and to lift (up to 60 lbs.).
  • At least three years of successful work experience in a
    laboring job.
