Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) invites applications for the position of Learning Commons Library
Coordinator. This position assists with coordinating library operations; collaborates on acquisition, cataloging, processing,
and circulation of library content; and supervises library staff. Prepares and delivers library orientations to students and visitors. Works
with library staff to maintain integrated library systems.

Located in rural northwestern Illinois along the scenic Rock
River, SVCC is situated between the cities of Dixon and Sterling, placing it just one hour from Rockford and the Quad Cities, and two hours

Examples of
Duties


Leadership & Operations

  • Collaborate on leadership, direction, and management of all
    aspects of library operations in
    accordance with professional standards.
  • Contribute to the assessment of unit services, activities,
    and implementation of changes for
    continuous improvement of library services.
  • Research and adopt innovative practices related to
    library services and best
    practices.

Staffing & Supervision


  • Contribute to hiring and supervising library
    staff and work-study
    employees.
  • Contribute to coordinating operating hours and staff scheduling of library
    services.
  • Contribute to identifying
    professional development needs and provide opportunities by recommending budget and specific
    training for staff.
  • Provide backup to
    other library staff on an as needed basis.

Collections & Systems

  • Collaborate on activities related to library
    collections, including selection, processing, weeding, promotion, and
    reporting.
  • Collaborate on the acquisition, licensing, and
    renewal of online holdings.
  • Serve as a primary or backup
    administrator for library systems and services.

Administration, Reporting & Compliance


  • Contribute to the
    development, planning, and monitoring of the library budget, under the
    direction of the supervisor.
  • Collaborate on reports on the
    use of library print and electronic holdings.
  • Collaborate on
    reports required by College, state, and federal
    authorities.
  • Contribute to the library maintaining compliance with Illinois State
    Library and consortia contracts and policies.

Outreach & General Duties

  • Market the library to district patrons,
    students, faculty, and others.
  • Assume
    all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the
    supervisor.

Essential Functions


Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • Must have strong
    communication (oral and written) and interpersonal
    skills.
  • Must be able to provide and understand verbal/visual orders from
    supervisor and to subordinates.
  • Must be able to
    work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to communicate
    effectively by phone and email on a daily basis.

Institutional Support & Scheduling


  • Must understand and support
    the mission of the community college.
  • Must be able
    to work evenings as required.

Technical Skills

  • Must
    possess excellent computer skills with the ability to work
    with Microsoft Office products.



Qualifications

Required
Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited master’s degree in library
    information science or library science.
  • At least one
    year of experience with reference services and information literacy
    instruction.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the core tenets
    of academic librarianship as articulated by the American Library
    Association’s Bill of Rights, Intellectual Freedom Principles for Academic
    Librarians, and Code of Ethics, as well as the Association of
    College and Research Libraries’ Framework for Information Literacy.

Desired Qualifications:


  • Proficiency in creating online library resources.
  • Experience with learning
    management systems.
  • Experience in library
    collection management in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of trends in
    information literacy, educational technology, and artificial
    intelligence.
  • Experience with budget management.

Frequent and
personal contact is made with all levels of College personnel, faculty,
students, and outside organizations in relation to specific
departmental duties and services.

Exercised

Administrative and functional supervision is
exercised over Learning Commons Library personnel.
