Position Summary:

The Academic Advisor will be responsible for providing academic advising for students who have not yet declared a specific major, first year students and students in poor academic standing. The advisor will also assist with other University College activities as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive advisement services to undecided students
• Serve as liaison for assigned academic college(s)
• Provide academic advising for New Student Orientation
• Staff advising center for walk-ins, extended hours and phone inquiries
• Present advising informational programs to students and faculty
• Contribute to campus-wide advisor enrichment initiatives
• Provide instruction for advisor training
• Provide instruction for students enrolled in Academic Standing Programs and First- Year Students as needed
• Assist with administrative duties within the office such as university withdrawals, change of majors and academic readmits
• Coordinate Retention Initiatives
• Assist in the day-to-day operation of the center and perform other duties as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of state, federal and university policies and procedures governing student academic progress.
Knowledge of student development theory.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to supervise a paraprofessional staff.

General Days/Hours:

Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in College Student Personnel or related field .

One (1) year experience in an academic advising or college teaching role.
