Sciences (PBS) at Indiana University in Bloomington is to unlock the mysteries of the human brain and behavior, and to prepare students to

As a part of the College of Arts and Sciences (The College),
PBS is a highly multidisciplinary department, with faculty and students carrying out research ranging from molecular neuroscience to
artificial intelligence.

Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Manages the
day-to-day HR operations for the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Program in Neuroscience, and the Cognitive Science Program
supporting faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate student employees across academic, research, and administrative
functions. - Partners with leadership in the day-to-day operations of human resource management and works to strengthen engagement,
streamline processes, and enhance organizational effectiveness. - Manages and coordinates HR activities for staff and academic
employees throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, position changes, promotions, transfers, leaves, and
separations for faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate student employees. Partners with hiring managers and academic leadership
to assess staffing needs, develop recruitment strategies, facilitate hiring processes, and ensure appropriate documentation and
approvals. - Coordinates employment-based immigration processes for applicable faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, and Academic
Non-Employees (ACNPs), including preparing and processing visa-related documentation and collaborating with appropriate university offices
to support timely processing and continued employment authorization. - Provides HR support for academic personnel processes, including
academic leaves, policy interpretation and consultation, visa coordination, and facilitation of promotion and tenure
procedures. - Initiates, processes, and monitors HR transactions, including eDocs and ePTO administration, and serves as a backup
payroll processor to ensure accurate and timely completion. - Advises department and program leadership on employee relations,
performance management, staff development, policy interpretation, organizational needs, change management, and complex personnel matters,
including corrective action. - Advises supervisors and department/program leadership on compensation, position classification, salary
equity, job design, organizational structure, and workforce planning. Reviews position and compensation requests, analyzes internal equity
and relevant workforce data, and collaborates with IUHR partners to develop recommendations aligned with institutional guidelines and
operational needs. - Collaborate with university partners to implement university-wide HR initiatives, represent the needs of
supported units, and facilitate effective communication and change management. - Identifies opportunities to improve HR processes,
communication, collaboration, and organizational effectiveness across supported units. - Serves as Staff Appointee on the PBS
Grievance Committee and Department Leader Appointee on the PBS Staff Awards Committee.
General Responsibilities
- Utilizes and applies in-depth academic and staff HR body of knowledge and skills to provide tactical guidance for HR related matters
like salary administration, hiring, training, and policy interpretation. - Resolves and provides solutions for more complex employee
relations issues with continued partnership, counsel, and support from Centers of Expertise (COEs). - Provides HR support for academic
personnel processes, including administration for academic leaves, policy review and consultation, visa-processing coordination, and
facilitation of promotion and tenure procedures. - Collaborate with other business partners and managers to improve and build
effective relationships to improve employee engagement and identify “high priority” retention needs. - Coach leaders to help determine
best solutions regarding policy interpretation, performance issues, workforce planning, change management, conflict resolution to ensure
alignment and consistency across the university. - Provides HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on issues to leaders and
managers. - Collaborate with HR COEs to roll out and support university-wide initiatives, ensure client’s needs are understood and
met, and deliver change management interventions.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor’s
degree.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 3 years of Human Resources or related progressively responsible experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred
- SHRM-CP/PHR within 1 year from date of hire.

working knowledge of the principles of human resources. - Demonstrated working knowledge and practical application and experience in
Word, Excel and database software as well as email. - Sound critical thinking and good judgement to resolve issues and provide
solutions. - Ability to collaborate and build effective relationships
- Ability to coach, mentor, and guide stakeholders through
change. - Excellent organizational skills with ability to work under tight deadline pressure.
- Ability to maintain
confidentiality and appropriate exercise of need-to-know practices. - Knowledge of university policies and
procedures.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to
operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving
around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an
accommodation.
