Description
The position serves as the primary liaison between the University administration,
faculty, students, and Army ROTC cadre. The assistant works with minimal supervision, exercising initiative and discretion to manage
day-to-day operations.
Hampton University is seeking an administrative assistant who will assist the Department of Military Science
in the performance of various administrative and clerical support tasks.
Examples of
Duties
- Maintains the Chair’s calendar of meetings, presentations, and deadlines.
- Performs all clerical
tasks, including typing, copying, retrieving, sorting and sending mail. - Assists in the preparation of meetings and events including
school and committee meetings organized by the Department of Education. - Take the meeting minutes for the Department of Education.
- Manages front desk operations (including answering the telephone and greeting visitors at the reception area).
- Sets
appointments with professors for students who need advisement or issues resolved. - Provides information and referrals to
faculty. - Prepares presentation materials including power point presentations and handouts.
- Collects and disseminates
department-related information. - Interfaces with repair personnel, vendors, delivery personnel, and equipment-service
providers. - Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Typical
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication
skills. - The ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated initiative and sense of ownership for
projects. - Able to work at Hampton University in person.
