Outpatient Cardiology Clinic

Summary:

The Arrhythmia Device Coordinator supports the Heart Center by providing expert care and coordination for pediatric patients with pacemakers, defibrillators, and other arrhythmia-related devices. This role ensures the delivery of safe, timely, and effective services through device programming, remote monitoring, and education for families and providers. The coordinator plays a critical role in supporting physicians, maintaining device data systems, and responding to after-hours patient needs.

Responsibilities:



1. Coordinates care for patients with dysrhythmias, pacemakers, and defibrillators in collaboration with electrophysiology physicians.


2. Performs interrogation, programming, and troubleshooting of implanted cardiac devices from all major manufacturers under physician supervision.



3. Monitors and interprets remote transmissions from arrhythmia-related devices; escalates findings to physician as appropriate.


4. Educates patients, families, and external providers on arrhythmia care, device use, and follow-up requirements.



5. Participates in 24/7 on-call rotation for remote monitoring support and urgent arrhythmia-related needs.



6. Manages and updates the arrhythmia device database (e.g., Paceart) to ensure accurate documentation and compliance.



7. Supports inventory control for clinic monitors, devices, and supplies.


8. Coordinates with community providers, schools, and emergency services to facilitate patient-centered care.



9. Provides training to internal teams (e.g., telemetry) and external stakeholders on arrhythmia management and device usage.


10. Participates in equipment evaluation and vendor engagement for new monitors and device technologies.



11. Other duties as required.


Other information:


Technical Expertise


1. Experience in a healthcare setting and working collaboratively across various levels of an organization is required.


2. Experience with pediatric patients, including those with pacemakers, AICDs, and arrhythmias, is preferred.



3. Experience interpreting heart rhythms is preferred.


4. Familiarity with pediatric cardiac surgery or catheterization labs is preferred.



5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.


6. Experience using cardiac device platforms such as Epiphany, Paceart, Medtronic, St. Jude, and Boston Scientific is preferred.



7. Experience with remote monitoring of implantable cardiac devices is preferred.

Education and Experience



1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field is required. Master’s in a health related field is preferred.


2. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. EKG Technician certification is required within one year of hire. Certified BLS instructor within one year of employment is required.



ACLS and PALS certifications are preferred. IBHRE Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) is preferred.


3. Years of relevant experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience preferred.



4. Years of experience supervising: None
