Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
This Academic
Administrator under the specific supervision of the assigned supervisor and general supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs,
has direct responsibility for the administrative decision-making processes directly relating to the assigned educational programs including
but not limited to programs in Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, and Certified Nursing Assistant. The administrator effectively serves as
both the Director of Nursing and the Director of EMS. This position will build and maintain collaborative relationships with community
partners, specifically hospitals and other healthcare organizations; prepare required reports and monitor the departments’ budgets,
including facilitating grant applications and management.
Responsibilities
REPRESENTATIVE
DUTIES:
Provides district-wide leadership to the following Health Services Programs: Associate Degree in Nursing, LVN to RN Career
Ladder, Certified Nursing Assistant, and any other nursing offerings that might be established.
Provides district-wide leadership to the
Emergency Medical Services program and serve as Director of EMS per Title 22. Oversee development of other potential programs such as
Paramedic.
Carries out functions of Nursing Director as regulated by the Board of Registered Nursing and Board of Vocational Nursing to
ensure program compliance.
Facilitates, in collaboration with faculty, the development/updating and implementation of the Nursing and EMS
curriculum, department and program policies and procedures in accordance with accreditation requirements and college policies and
procedures.
Provides required reports for program and college accreditation.
Maintains records including student attrition, clinical
site approvals, faculty approvals, meeting minutes, prepares and submits required reports and statistics to state and/or federal
agencies.
Prepares, updates, and submits reports that reflect planning for sufficient faculty, staff, and equipment to maintain, change
or expand programs according to district needs.
Participates in ongoing, systematic program evaluation by students, faculty and health
care
providers as required by nursing board and other accrediting agencies. Works with faculty to implement changes when
indicated.
Supervises the department budget including planning for purchases to meet faculty and student needs, maintains current media
and computer software and updates library reserve and supplemental resource books for student and faculty use.
Initiates, updates, and
maintains current contractual agreements with district agencies to provide adequate clinical practicum sites for all programs.
Promotes
nursing education to the general public through community contacts, mass media contacts and participates in related community activities, as
well as orientation for students new to the nursing education programs.
Oversees collection and maintenance of mandated student records
including physical forms, immunizations, yearly TB testing, CPR certifications and drug screening to meet requirements of State Board of
Registered Nursing and Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA).
Schedules all required student training.
Initiates catalog changes
as needed to keep program and application information current. Assists with website updates and program brochures to ensure that prospective
students have access to current information.
Schedules courses; monitors use of available classrooms and clinical sites to meet the needs
of students at each level and in each program; oversees the ordering of textbooks for all nursing courses; works with faculty to assign
students to clinical groups.
Works collaboratively with relevant department chairs to schedule department meetings and maintain meeting
minutes in accordance with regulatory agency requirements. Calls and holds regularly scheduled advisory board meetings.
Participates in
counseling of students with performance/academic issues/complaints related to programs including advising students of complaint process when
appropriate.
Maintains and monitors all program applicants (ex. RN, RN step-up program) for new, returning, and international
students.
Attends appropriate professional meetings and related seminars/workshops.
Maintains CCCCO grants, completes required
reports, monitors budgets, and updates applications as necessary to maintain grant funded positions.
Supervises and evaluates assigned
department staff, coordinates staff schedules and workload assignments.
Serves on college committees as assigned.
Assures currency of
continuing education license.
Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Dean or the Vice President of Academic
Affairs.
Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic
backgrounds of community college students.
Assists in maintaining a fair and open work environment in accordance with the College’s
commitment to teamwork, mutual trust, and respect.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The successful candidate, shall meet the
requirements set forth in BRN regulations Section 1425:
- A Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or University
which includes course work in nursing education or administration; and - One years’ experience in an administrative position with
validated performance of administrative responsibilities consistent with section 1420(h) of the Board of Registered Nursing; and - Two
years’ experience teaching in pre- or post-licensure registered nursing programs; and - One years’ continuous, full-time or its
equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse.

Office environment with daily, staff-faculty interactions,
subject to frequent interruptions; travel to off-campus locations may be required.
Physical Abilities:
Dexterity of hands and
fingers to operate a computer terminal; seeing to read and analyze financial and statistical reports; utilize speech and hearing
tocommunicate with others in ordinary or telephonic conversation; sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
