Summary:

The Transportation Services Driver provides safe and reliable transportation services for the College community by operating buses, shuttles, and service vehicles. The position ensures compliance with transportation regulations, conducts vehicle inspections, maintains accurate records, assists passengers, and supports the maintenance, cleanliness, and operational readiness of the College’s transportation fleet.

Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Safely operate College buses, shuttles, and service vehicles, including route planning, trip coordination, and passenger assistance.
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and DOT regulations through required inspections, documentation, and maintenance of driver logs.
  • Complete and maintain accurate trip records, including mileage, hours worked, expenses, inspection reports, and related documentation.
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and safety checks, identifying and reporting maintenance and repair needs.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and minor repairs, including replacing filters, belts, bulbs, wiper blades, and interior components as approved.
  • Maintain vehicle readiness by monitoring fuel and fluid levels, onboard safety equipment, and operational systems.
  • Fuel, service, and clean buses and shuttles, including interior and exterior detailing and restroom maintenance.
  • Maintain bus fleet records, including fuel consumption, maintenance activities, supplies inventory, and purchasing documentation.
  • Manage transportation-related resources, including purchasing cards, passes, supplies, and destination route databases.
  • Maintain bus garage facilities and inventory, ensuring vehicles, equipment, and supplies are organized, stocked, and operational.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training.
  • Must have valid Ohio CDL driver’s license (passenger CDL).


Knowledge:

  • Safe operation of buses, shuttles, and passenger vehicles.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT), state, and federal transportation regulations.
  • Vehicle inspection procedures, preventative maintenance practices, and fleet safety standards.
  • Recordkeeping, trip documentation, and compliance reporting requirements.


Skills:

  • Operating commercial passenger vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Route planning, navigation, and trip coordination.
  • Conducting vehicle inspections and identifying maintenance concerns.
  • Maintaining accurate records, logs, and transportation documentation.


Abilities:

  • Work independently and exercise sound judgment in changing travel conditions.
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and established procedures.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance and cleaning tasks.
  • Prioritize multiple responsibilities and respond effectively to emergencies or unexpected travel issues.
