Primary Purpose of Position
The business officer is responsible
for independently managing business and financial operations within a department or unit that includes dynamic funding sources and a variety
of functional activities. The role applies broad knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and business practices to support organizational
operations, interpret and apply established policies and procedures, and contribute to short- and long-term planning. The scope of work is
focused within a defined organizational environment and does not require enterprise-wide authority or oversight of highly specialized or
multifaceted operations. Employees understand and can articulate the relationship between HR programs and activities and the organization’s
successful mission accomplishment. Work involves developing and maintaining productive collaborative work relationships and assessing and
responding to apparent and underlying client needs. Employees interpret policies and practices in context of the client’s needs and in
alignment with the organization’s best interests and advise clients regarding decisions that are impacted by laws, policies, and procedures.
This position independently manages and coordinates assigned programs and operational activities, ensuring services are delivered
effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with established policies and procedures. The role requires full professional proficiency in
planning, organizing, communication, and problem-solving, with responsibility for coordinating resources, vendors, schedules, and
stakeholders to achieve defined outcomes. The position applies sound professional judgment to address routine and non-routine operational
issues, prioritize workload, and support continuous service delivery. While the role may recommend improvements and support cross-functional
coordination, it operates within established frameworks and does not carry responsibility for setting organizational strategy or policy
direction. The scope of work reflects a fully competent professional contributor responsible for reliable execution and coordination of
programs and services.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
CLOE is responsible for developing the
university’s leadership talent and providing learning workshops to enhance staff and faculty’s professional capabilities. CLOE also provides
consulting support to colleges and functions within the following areas: organizational design, team effectiveness, strategic planning, and
culture enhancement.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration,
Accounting, or related field
AND
- 4-6+ years of progressively responsible experience
with:- Advanced Title III funding knowledge and experience
- Advanced knowledge of NC A&T procurement and purchasing
- Managing dynamic or multi-dimensional funding sources
- Financial forecasting and strategic planning
- Policy interpretation and implementation
- Skilled in the use of LMS technology for course management
