Description

The successful candidate will be a member of the management team supervising the work
of full-time and part-time Security Officers while on shift with them. The incumbent understands the full scope of Safety & Security
operations and provides a safe and secure environment for Husson University students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

of Duties

The Corporal oversees assigned operational components of the Department and supervises full-time and part-time
Security Officers while on shift. The Corporal facilitates communication with officers, directs them to respond to requests for service, and
provides pertinent information necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Husson
University. The Corporal also performs all duties of a Security Officer and serves as a front-line supervisor for the shift he/she is
working.



The Corporal is responsible for the comfort, safety, and security of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors to
Husson University. The Corporal maintains a safe environment and minimizes the potential for loss or damage of all property controlled by
Husson University by conducting high visibility patrols on foot and in University owned vehicles, monitoring CCTV equipment, and monitoring
two-way radio communications. The Corporal provides a wide variety of services to our campus community and is expected to proactively seek
opportunities to provide excellent customer service.
The Corporal enforces Husson University rules and regulations, and the Community
Conduct Code, and coordinates with law enforcement in enforcing state statutes. The Corporal recognizes potential safety concerns and takes
measures to mitigate these concerns. Corporal responds to disturbances and mitigates disruptive conduct, responds to emergencies as needed,
and coordinates with all local, county, and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of Husson University.

The
Corporal reports to Security Management and ensures that Management is aware of performance issues or concerns that need to be addressed.
The Corporal is responsible to informing the member of the Management Team of any incident while on shift, should notification be required
by Security Policies.



  • Provide prompt, courteous service to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Work a full-time schedule,
    evenings, or overnights, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Must be available to cover other shifts due to absences,
    inclement weather, or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Supervises Safety and Security staff while on shift.
  • Ensures that
    employees follow policies and procedures while on shift.
  • Maintains a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Coordinates and
    participates in daily assignments which include scheduling staff, monitoring performance, handling complex situations or cases, and/or
    performing related duties.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all departmental and University information and paperwork.
  • Ability to activate the Emergency Notification System upon orders from senior university administrators including the University
    President, University Provost, University Vice President of Administration, Associate Vice President or Associate Director of Campus Safety
    and Security.
  • Attend and/or complete all departmental and University training requirements including CPR/AED certification.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies & procedures.
  • Maintain complete awareness of
    Husson University Campus property, life safety systems, and emergency plans including the proper use of fire extinguishers.
  • Be
    well-groomed and properly wear the issued uniform.
  • Appropriately maintain all issued duty equipment
  • Monitor and operate a
    two-way radio utilizing proper radio protocol to maintain FCC & NIMS compliance.
  • Must have appropriate report-writing skills, as
    well as the ability to utilize electronic reporting systems.
  • Patrol University property to prevent and detect signs of intrusion,
    theft, and life safety concerns.
  • Provides safety and traffic control during Campus events.
  • Ensure all necessary doors and
    buildings are properly secured.
  • Ensure resolution of any safety concerns noted during your shift.
  • Monitor and regulate as
    necessary building systems including building boilers, as well as refrigerator and freezer units.
  • Monitor CCTV and review as
    necessary for security and investigations.
  • Answer telephone calls, take messages, answer questions and provide information.
  • Enforce University rules & regulations and notify violators of infractions including the issuance of parking tickets.
  • Escort students, staff, faculty, and visitors to various locations as necessary.
  • Investigate suspicious activity, security
    issues, and criminal incidents.
  • Gather and process evidence and properly document it in verbal and written reports.
  • Respond to accidents and medical emergencies and provide First Aid and CPR
  • Respond to disturbances and emergencies on
    university property.
  • Write technical reports to document incidents and investigations, as well as daily activities.
  • Contact the member of Security Management on call as needed during emergencies.
  • Contact local police and fire departments
    as necessary and act as a liaison between these agencies and the University as needed.
  • Apprehend suspects and use departmentally
    approved restraint techniques as necessary, including but not limited to pepper spray, baton, and handcuffs.
  • Keep a daily dispatch
    log of calls, events, and activities.
  • Create digital and hard-copy documents and forms as needed.
  • Perform a daily
    inventory of first responder keycards and maps.
  • Maintain working knowledge and the ability to use all Safety and Security systems
    and technology platforms.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications


EDUCATION

  • High school education or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
  • At least 1 year of
    both supervisory experience and security, military, or law enforcement experience is preferred.


EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrate decisive confident leadership abilities.
  • Must have attention to detail and
    respond promptly and professionally when necessary.
  • Be able to prioritize, organize, and follow up when needed.
  • Have a
    clear command of the English language and be able to complete computer-generated reports.
  • Be a clear thinker, display the ability
    to remain calm, and show good judgment when resolving problems.
  • Follow directions thoroughly, speak and interact with students,
    staff and visitors asnecessary.
  • Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality of departmental and University information.
  • Safely operate motorized vehicles, bicycles, and
    other department-owned equipment.
  • Must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Maine.
  • Must be
    certified or have the ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED, and other equipment as assigned.
