General Summary

Performs tasks necessary to maintain the campus in a safe, clean and presentable condition in order to provide a comfortable learning and working environment for students and staff. Will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with college policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Inspects assigned buildings in order to achieve and maintain a high standard of cleanliness.

Cleans restrooms, classrooms, hallways, lounges, dining areas, study areas dorms, gyms, and other areas. Work includes vacuuming, spot cleaning, carpet extracting, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and burnishing floors; dusting and wiping surfaces; cleaning and sanitizing bathroom fixtures and drinking fountains; emptying trash cans; washing windows; cleaning furniture; changing bulbs and cleaning lenses, etc.

Prepares classrooms for day and evening sessions by cleaning, arranging furniture, and completing other tasks as directed. Sets up and removes equipment and furniture needed for special activities on campus.

Is responsible for securing buildings (i.e. locking doors, windows, turning off lights, etc.)

Responsible for keeping custodian equipment clean; changing filters, bags, belts, and containers when needed; and reporting safety concerns, equipment failures, maintenance needs and unusual incidents to your supervisor.

Serves as contact person for students and staff who need rooms locked or unlocked, equipment or supplies delivered, directions to campus locations, emergency situations, inclement weather, etc. Assists with vehicle emergencies such as jump-starting, locked doors, low tires, etc.

Stores necessary custodial supplies and equipment neatly and safely. Maintains proper inventory in assigned areas.

Removes snow from steps, sidewalks, etc.; also will apply ice melting materials. Assists maintenance as needed with streets and parking lots.
