Description

The Custodian will be responsible for
performing various functions in ensuring building environments are kept clean. Must have the ability to work within a department and a team
environment. Must be courteous and have good communication skills. Must have the ability to work with little or no supervision and be
self-motivated and diligent. The essential and secondary functions for this role are defined below:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Adhere and stay on task with the cleaning schedules that are set by the cleaning and custodial supervisor.
  • Work as part of a
    team to execute cleaning duties and to make sure that standards (neatness/cleanliness) are maintained.
  • Make reports to supervisor
    concerning repairs that have to be made (which have been noticed while carrying out daily duties)
  • When in contact with hazardous
    materials, inform the appropriate authorities so that the situation can be addressed,
  • Keep clean windows to door entries, mopping
    floors, dusting, and always sweeping and vacuuming where applicable.
  • Empty trash bins on a regular basis.
  • Ensure safety
    signs are visible for wet floors during cleaning and any other form of safety situation in the surroundings.
  • Re-stock materials
    like toilet paper and hand towels in the washrooms, etc.
  • Carry out extra cleaning duties as ordered or instructed by
    supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Adhere to safety standards
    and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate and work with various departments and staff.
  • Verify scope, timelines, and quality
    of work.
  • Maintain and track work order requests are complete on your shift.
  • Respond to urgent issues as needed.
  • Make sure assigned cleaning tasks are executed in a timely and orderly manner.
  • Prescribe appropriate cleaning materials and
    products needed for disinfecting and sanitizing the entire building according to the organization’s standards
  • Ensure proper
    cleaning logs and records that show areas of the building that have been cleaned.
  • SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND
    ABILITIES:
  • Must be familiar or have good knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures
  • Takes ownership of problems
    and solves them fast
  • Shows initiative of career growth

Qualifications


Education:

  • High school diploma required.


Experience:

  • Previous working experience as a custodian/janitor is a plus.
  • Have a willingness to continue to learn
  • Ability to work
    with others

Licenses or Certificates: None

Additional Requirements: A background and/or credit check will be
required of the successful applicant.
