Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking Dining Hall Supervisors for Dining Services. This position reports to a Dining Services Unit Manager and supervises the daily activities of one or more food service facilities operated by Rutgers University Dining Services.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Supervises the service of meals, set up, upkeep and effective sanitation of all service areas. Assigns and trains cooks, utility workers, and student employees to offer smooth, efficient, and courteous service.
- Handles the left over food, advanced preparation, and the cleaning of the kitchen to include sanitizing of equipment.
- Supervises and performs custodial tasks including daily, periodic, and concentrated cleaning and sanitizing of all areas, particularly food service areas, food preparation equipment, storage areas, kitchens, floors, walls, furniture, windows, etc. in accordance with university, county, state, and federal safety and sanitation policies.
- Assists with cash handing, receipts, preparing transmittals, operating reports and payroll. Supervises the entrance and exit security activities.
- May be assigned to one or more department-wide committees.
- May be assigned to other related dining service duties and special projects as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in food service management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience and a minimum of two years of experience in food service.
Certifications/Licenses
- ServSafe Certification, or certification within one year from date of employment.
- A valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Computer literacy in industry standard software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four years experience, including supervision and food preparation in a high-volume dining facility.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to lift and carry food, equipment and beverage items.
- Location/Hours: TBD.
