Reporting to the Vice
President of Human Resources, the Director of Employee Relations is the College’s primary advisor on employee relations and workplace
culture. This strategic leader partners with managers and employees to foster a respectful, inclusive, and high-performing work environment
through employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, workplace investigations, policy guidance, and leadership coaching.
As a member of the HR Leadership Team, the Director advances employee engagement, supports organizational effectiveness, and ensures fair,
consistent, and compliant employment practices.
Min Salary: $77,811.75
Mid Salary:
$87,538.22- We offer a competitive salary package that will be determined based on the candidate’s experience level and qualifications
related to the job. Compensation will be commensurate with your level of experience.
Education
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Higher Education
Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field
Education Preferred
- PHR /SPHR (Senior
Professional in Human Resources)/SHRM certification is a plus but not required.
Experience Required
- Seven
(7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in employee relations, human resources, labor relations, organizational
development, or a closely related field. - Experience conducting workplace investigations and resolving complex employee relations
issues. - Experience interpreting and applying employment laws, policies, procedures, and regulations
- Experience advising
managers and employees on performance management, conflict resolution, and workplace conduct matters. - Demonstrated ability to
maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and manage sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion. - Strong
written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR information systems.
Experience Preferred
- Prefer experience in higher education, including employee relations experience involving
academic faculty.
KSA Required
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local rules and regulations, trends, and
changes related to human resources in the public sector. - Ability to handle difficult employment issues in a highly professional and
expeditious manner. - Skilled in writing clearly and concisely, including presenting technical analyses and agreements with
precision. - Ability to diffuse stressful situations in a constructive manner.
- Ability to lead with both a decisive and
consultative style, foster open communications, and proactively build positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, and diverse
constituencies. - Ability to build strong working relationships, instilling trust and confidence in colleagues at all levels.
- Self-motivated and able to meet critical deadlines; flexible at setting and revising priorities while managing multiple projects.
- Exceptional presentation, facilitation, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Strong conceptual,
strategic planning and problem-solving skills. - Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment; high
level organization skills. - Experienced mediator with well-developed conflict resolution skills who can handle sensitive and
confidential information in a professional manner. - Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and
guidelines related to affirmative action, disabilities, EEO, and civil rights. - Commitment to diversity and inclusion in workplace
policies and practices. - Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions,
conclusions, or approaches to problems; Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations. - Ability to use good judgment and
knowledge of legal requirements/ college policies as needed. - Strong skills in Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), Excel,
PowerPoint, Teams, and Word are essential. - Knowledge of /ability to obtain knowledge of the NC Community College System policies
and procedures as related to employment. - Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
