ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:
The Director of
Advising provides leadership and oversight for Lackawanna College’s academic advising process to ensure students are guided into courses
that align with their academic programs, degree requirements, and developmental or sequential course needs. The Director manages advising
activities, processes, and services that support student progress, degree completion, retention, and overall student success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead Academic Advising Operations and Strategy by overseeing the daily operations, service delivery, and strategic direction of
academic advising to ensure consistent, student-centered support aligned with institutional goals. - Develop and Implement Advising
Policies, Processes, and Standards. Establish, evaluate, and refine advising procedures, workflows, communication standards, and
escalation protocols to promote efficiency, compliance, and a high-quality student experience. - Provide leadership, coaching,
performance management, and professional development for academic advisors to ensure consistent application of advising practices and
student success strategies in the Student Success Center, Academics, and Satellite locations. - Use Data to Improve Student Success
and Operational Effectiveness. Monitor advising metrics, student persistence, retention, registration, caseload activity, and
service outcomes to identify trends, improve processes, and support proactive interventions. - Partner with faculty, program
directors, department chairs, registrar, financial aid, enrollment, and other campus offices to resolve student issues, improve advising
pathways, and support degree completion and retention initiatives. - Ensure technology needed to support students through the
advising process is accurate and up to date, including, but not limited to, Jenzabar and Starfish. - Provide strategic
oversight and collaboration to assist in MSCHE and other accreditation compliance and processes. - Work during high-impact
periods, evenings, and weekends as needed. - Perform other duties as assigned to support student success, academic advising
operations, and the mission of the College.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving
skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and support effective advising operations. - Demonstrated ability to use
student information systems, advising platforms, and data to inform decisions, monitor outcomes, and improve student success
initiatives. - Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students,
faculty, staff, and campus partners. - Sound judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in addressing student needs,
operational challenges, and institutional priorities. - Collaborative leadership skills with the ability to guide staff, build
relationships, and support continuous improvement within academic advising.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s
preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years of academic advising experience
- Supervisory experience
preferred - Documented experience with Jenzabar database or related system
