Job Summary:
Provide embedded tutoring support for students enrolled in an integrated reading and writing course focused on reading comprehension, vocabulary development, grammar usage, paragraph and essay writing, and introductory research skills. Provide tutoring to assist students at all stages of the reading and writing process. Help students develop effective academic strategies, build confidence, and connect with additional campus resources when appropriate. Document tutoring interactions and outcomes in the tutor scheduling platform.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend assigned class sessions regularly to provide embedded support and assist with student engagement and learning activities.
- Provide tutoring support to individuals and small groups during and outside of class.
- Support students in developing reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Encourage student engagement and promote use of Tutoring and Writing Center services and other campus academic support resources; Refer students to appropriate college support services and departments when needed.
- Communicate regularly with course instructors and Tutoring and Writing Center staff to support student success and ensure effective program operation.
- Participate in departmental meetings, tutor training, in-service sessions, and other job-related professional development activities.
- Utilize college technologies, including learning management systems, tutoring platforms, conferencing technologies, and other instructional tools.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Submission of official college transcript(s).
- Experience in providing tutoring in higher education, a community organization, or a high school.
- Demonstrated advocacy and commitment to student success and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by community college and developmental education students.
