Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Employee Relations, the Employee Relations Coordinator serves as an integral member of the Employee Relations team. This position is responsible for providing guidance and support to college supervisors and managers on employee relations matters including discipline and corrective action, employee job performance or behavior concerns, employee complaints and grievances, and strategic management of employees Reporting to the Director of Employee Relations, the Employee Relations Coordinator serves as a key advisor to supervisors and managers on workplace matters including performance concerns, corrective action, complaints, and policy interpretation. This role supports institutional compliance, promotes consistent application of policies, conducts investigations, and contributes to a fair and respectful workplace environment. The Employee Relations Coordinator is responsible for developing, executing, monitoring, and analyzing human resources activities within the scope of the employment life cycle. This position will be responsible for increasing employee confidence by ensuring consistency and fairness in the interpretations and application of college-wide policy; and by providing technical expertise to employees, supervisors, and stakeholders.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining a fair, respectful, and legally compliant workplace by ensuring consistent application of policy, supporting leaders in decision-making, and fostering a culture of accountability and trust.

– Receives, reviews, and makes appropriate decisions regarding requests for assistance with workplace complaints, and facilitates corrective action as needed.

– Identifies trends in employee relations issues and recommends proactive interventions.


– Partners with leadership to improve workplace culture and reduce risk.

– Supports organizational initiatives related to retention and engagement.


– Responds to inquiries regarding employment policies, procedures, programs, and compliance issues accurately and in a timely manner.

– Assists with People and Workplace Culture (PWC) strategies including employment processing, training and development, succession planning, employee relations and retention, compliance, and records management.


– Consults with college management at all levels on employee relations issues, including discipline, corrective action, employee job performance or behavior concerns, employee complaints and grievances, and strategic management of employment issues.

– Fosters a positive and engaging work environment for employees by promoting skill development, coaching for improvement and growth, inspiring others through words and actions, ensuring positive employee morale throughout the college contributing to a positive and respectful workplace environment, and embracing SLCC’s mission, vision, and core values.


– Conduct trainings on employee relations policies and procedures to managers, supervisors, and employees.

– Conduct employee relations investigations and drafts recommended resolution, with the advice of legal counsel as appropriate and in accordance with college policy.


– Oversees maintenance of employee records and files. Ensures accurate and compliant maintenance of employee records in accordance with institutional and legal standards.

– Other duties as assigned.

– Proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to learn other software used at the college.

– Ability to manage multiple priorities and administer broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, coaching, and counseling managers, supervisors, and employees on policies and procedures.


– Ability to communicate and work effectively with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Minimum qualifications


– Bachelor’s degree in HR, Counseling, Psychology or closely related field.

– Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in employee relations/human resources. Experience must include direct responsibility for handling workplace concerns, investigations, or advising supervisors on employee relations matters.



– Trade-offs for education and experience considered on a 2-to-1 basis Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered on a 2-for-1 basis.

– Part-time experience considered on a prorated basis.


– Experience conducting workplace investigations or fact-finding reviews

-Experience advising managers on performance or conduct issues.


– Experience interpreting employment policies or labor/employment laws.

– Experience in higher education, public sector, or similarly complex organizations.


Preferred Qualifications

– Experience with data management systems such as Maxient.
