Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is a
research-focused academic unit that supports collaboration among faculty, staff, and students. The department includes endowed faculty
positions and tenured faculty members, some of whom hold fellow status in professional organizations such as AAAS, ACS, and RSC. Faculty and
staff participate in research, instruction, and mentoring activities that support student academic and professional development.
Departmental work includes laboratory and project coordination, research activity, instructional support, and opportunities for scholarly
engagement such as presenting research at professional conferences.


Job Description

This position will
provide technical and safety support to Chairs, Professors, Graduate students, Administration and Environmental Health and
Safety.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintain EHS compliance and general lab safety regulations.
  • Monitor
    training compliance.
  • Monthly inspection of eye wash and other safety equipment, train students in safety procedures.
  • Management of emergency safety signage on doors.
  • Serve as Safety Officer for Schrenk Hall.
  • Place orders for
    academic staff, faculty and students in chemistry and biology and report progress on orders and updates on status of
    deliveries.
  • Perform one card reconciliation for faculty.
  • Receive deliveries, log packages, enter chemicals into ChemTrack
    software, distribute packages.
  • Oversee maintenance of chemical inventories in research and teaching laboratories.
  • Supervise chemistry supply room.
  • Properly handling and disposal of chemicals and biological wastes.
  • Collect IOFs,
    distribute solvents to departments across campus as needed.
  • Maintain solvent room, to include the distribution, monitoring, and
    purchase of solvents.
  • Assist with receiving of large shipments of equipment, tanks, etc.
  • Place equipment orders in support
    of the research, teaching and service missions of the departments of chemistry and biological science.
  • Other duties as
    assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination
of education and education and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is
necessary


Anticipated Hiring Range



The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as
$18.87-$21.50 hourly.


Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular
combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
