The Facility Planner, with a transportation/mobility emphasis, supports the operation of the Planning, Design, and Construction team, as
well as other Facilities Management staff, by primarily focusing on comprehensive transportation planning for the UNC Charlotte campus.

Summary of Position Responsibilities


  • The incumbent will be responsible for identifying
    transportation/mobility and infrastructure needs and priorities in order to: Improve campus access for the university community, align
    transportation and mobility plans with the university’s strategic goals, and enhance the campus experience.
  • The incumbent is
    expected to have knowledge of both state and federal transportation/mobility requirements and processes, safety, and/or environmental
    planning experience, and will serve as a resource to the campus community for transportation/mobility planning.
  • The incumbent will
    have a strong emphasis on communication skills to work collaboratively with staff in Parking and Transportation Services, Police and Public
    Safety, and other university and external stakeholders.
  • This is administrative and technical work in managing
    transportation/mobility projects, designing plans and specifications for projects, and conducting short- and long-range
    transportation/mobility plans.
  • The incumbent will have extensive transportation/mobility and/or urban planning experience, project
    management experience, organizational skills, and significant experience in data collection and analysis.
  • Work includes the
    ability to translate conceptual ideas to specific plans and programming, prioritization of transportation/mobility projects, and may entail
    directing the work of vendors, designers, and/or contractors.
  • The incumbent will work with departments and department heads to
    create a formal transportation plan to align with UNC Charlotte’s campus master plan, meet the needs of proposed new construction and/or
    roadway plans, develop projected cost estimates based on construction/cost trends, conduct planning meetings, and manage competing interests
    between departments involved in space planning and new construction and renovation planning.
  • Liaison duties with outside designers
    and reviewing agencies, facilities services personnel, and county and local government officials.
  • Work as a contributing teammate
    in the Planning, Design, and Construction department to collaborate and provide expertise on a wide variety of departmental projects and
    plans.
  • Perform other duties as required.
