Responsibilities:
Budget Development & Management
- Assist in the preparation, consolidation, and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Collaborate with department heads to gather financial data and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Maintenance of position control (roster) records and tasks, using judgment to escalate approval decisions
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze budget variances and provide actionable insights to improve financial performance.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
- Weekly reconciliation of position budget to operating budget
- Analysis of headcount trends across position types and divisions
Forecasting, Planning & Budget Oversight
- Develop financial models to support forecasting and long-term planning.
- Review insufficient fund notifications and collaborate with departments to post budget amendments as needed.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to inform strategic decision-making.
Cost Control & Compliance
- Monitor expenditures and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and external regulations.
System & Process Improvement
- Support the implementation and enhancement of budgeting tools and financial systems.
- Streamline reporting processes to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Training & Operational Support
- Provide training and guidance to staff on Workday financial systems and budget procedures.
- Act as Expense Operations Lead (approver), ensuring submissions are accurate, policy-compliant, and properly documented.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
Experience:
3+ years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting, preferably in a higher education or public sector environment.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of federal and institutional financial policies and procedures.
- High attention to detail and discretion with confidential information.
